Job Description
As a Senior Engineer – Test Capability you will join the Derby team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector.
You will play a key role in developing and governing the tools, methods, processes, and standards required for successful engineering test programmes supporting advanced nuclear power systems.
This role focuses on verification & validation, test strategy, supplier oversight, digital process improvement, and ensuring that test programmes deliver robust technical evidence to support system design, safety, and regulatory assurance.
You will be working in a highly regulated, safety‑critical environment, contributing to the delivery of next‑generation nuclear technology.
- Location: Derby / Warrington / Manchester – can be based at any of these sites
- On Site: 3 days per week
- Clearance: BPSS
- Experience Level: 5‑10 years
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement integrated test processes, standards, methods, and governance frameworks.
- Define and support delivery of engineering test programmes for design development, verification, and validation.
- Ensure tests generate the required evidence for system assurance, compliance, and technical acceptance.
- Collaborate with SMEs, project teams, and suppliers to scope and execute test activities.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and quality review of junior engineers’ outputs.
- Support strategic resource planning aligned to programme priorities.
- Monitor supplier performance, technical quality, safety, and delivery metrics.
- Integrate test tools and processes with wider engineering and business systems.
- Drive digital improvements using PowerApps, Power Automate, Azure DevOps, Power BI, SharePoint, or similar tools.
- Produce and review technical documentation including test specifications, calculations, reports, drawings, and P&IDs.
- Support right‑first‑time delivery through continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong experience planning and delivering test programmes in engineering environments.
- Background in safety‑critical or regulated industries (Nuclear desirable).
- Experience managing engineering projects to time, cost, and quality targets.
- Strong understanding of verification & validation (V&V) processes.
- Experience with structured systems engineering methodologies.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to review technical work and coach engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent military experience.
Desirable Skills
- Experience within nuclear, power generation, defence, aerospace, or oil & gas sectors.
- Knowledge of digital engineering and automation tools.
- Experience with supplier management and outsourced delivery models.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools.
