SEN Learning Support Assistant

Captains Close Primary School

Salary: Grade 5 Pay Point 7-8 (Approximate starting salary of £18,203)

Hours: 31.25 per week and 39 weeks per year (38 weeks Term Time, plus one week including INSET days)

Contract Type: Fixed Term with an end date of August 2027

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:30-15:15, with an unpaid lunch break

About the Role

Captains Close Primary School has an exciting opportunity for a SEN Learning Support Assistant. This is a varied role and we are looking for an adaptable, flexible and resourceful individual. We are looking for an individual to support all children across the school, with particular strength and experience in supporting pupils with SEN as well as a good understanding of KS2 Maths and English.

We are also looking for someone who is committed to improving outcomes for all of our children, along with a passion for providing inspirational learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work under the supervision of a teacher to provide care and encouragement to children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs, supporting them to participate in activities and liaising, if required, with parents / carers / other professionals as appropriate.
  • To work under the direct supervision of a teacher to carry out planned learning activities to meet the specific needs of designated children, either individually or in small groups, providing feedback on their engagement in activities and their achievement of the desired learning objectives.
  • To support the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils, including contributing ideas and suggestions to support planning, to meet their development needs.
  • To observe and feed back to the teacher on pupil performance and behaviour, taking action as appropriate in line with relevant school policies.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent OR Able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 2 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
  • Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy

Experience

  • Experience of supporting teaching and learning in a formal setting

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy with children and young people.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
