About the Role
We are recruiting a trainee (level 6 apprentice) Trading Standards Officer on a 3‑year fixed‑term contract to undertake a specialist apprenticeship (max 29 months) via the CSA provider. You will receive training in all the basics of trading standards work with a focus on vapes and tobacco enforcement and one of the following areas: food standards, animal feeds (with an introduction to weights and measures).
Responsibilities
- Investigate complaints and conduct on‑site investigations at farms, factories, businesses and community premises.
- Collect and test samples, provide advice to businesses and individuals, and take formal action when required.
- Compile evidence, prepare prosecution reports, seize offending products and give evidence in court.
- Work in partnership with agencies such as Police, HMRC and other councils.
Qualities & Qualifications
- Good standard of education and the aptitude and commitment to study toward a professional qualification.
- Demonstrable interest in Trading Standards work and public health issues, including vapes and tobacco.
- Excellent communication, customer service, time‑management, attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Practical knowledge of and access to all parts of Bury; having a driving licence is essential.
