It is an exciting time at Becket Keys – an OfSTED Outstanding and SIAMS Outstanding school. We are building on strong GCSE and A Level successes that have placed us in the top two schools of our kind in East Anglia.

We are now seeking a Cover Teacher to join our team. The role is suitable for recent graduates, career changers, aspiring teachers, experienced cover teachers or qualified teachers looking for a role with fewer responsibilities and a better work/life balance.

About the Role

As a Cover Teacher you will be part of a small, dedicated team that supervises students in cover lessons when their teacher is absent. You will provide a consistent face to students, getting to know them by name and ensuring they understand what they need to do in the lesson. Lessons are prepared and easy to deliver, with training and opportunities to observe experienced colleagues.

Hours can be extended through negotiation, but we expect an 8:00 am start and a 3:30 pm finish as a minimum. All thirteen weeks of school holidays are offered, along with the opportunity to attend our seven INSET days.

Cover teachers may cover a range of subjects, student numbers and abilities. You can focus on subjects that match your strengths and may also get involved in the wider life of the school (e.g., music groups, sports, school plays).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver set cover lessons to classes of around 25 students.
  • Help support a positive, safe learning environment.
  • Use IT to support the delivery of lessons.
  • Build good relationships with students through regular daily interaction.
  • Optionally support extra‑curricular clubs and extend your role within the school community.

Why Join Us?

  • Valuable school experience – ideal for those considering teacher training.
  • Supportive school with welcoming staff and strong Christian values.
  • Ongoing professional development and guidance from an experienced education trust.

What We Are Looking For

  • Recent graduates interested in entering the education sector.
  • Individuals seeking a career change.
  • Aspiring teachers who want hands‑on classroom experience.
  • Experienced cover teachers.
  • Qualified teachers seeking fewer responsibilities and better work/life balance.

The appointee will commit to our high expectations and core values. We welcome applicants of all faiths or beliefs, provided they respect the beliefs of others and hold strong moral principles.

Staff are supported with a comprehensive induction programme and a laptop. Childcare vouchers are available, and nearby childcare facilities offer discounted rates. Staff members also benefit from a guaranteed place for their child in our school.
