Job Overview
We are looking to recruit a Linen, Laundry and Uniforms Porter to join our Estates and Facilities team to play a vital role in supporting patient care across the Trust. This is a practical, hands‑on role where your work directly contributes to patient dignity, infection prevention and the smooth running of clinical services. We offer full training, opportunities for development and flexible working patterns.
Full‑time and part‑time positions available: 2× full time Monday‑Friday 37.5 hours per week; 1× part time Thursday‑Sunday 30 hours per week; 1× part time Saturday‑Sunday 15 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
- Collect, deliver and distribute clean linen, uniforms and related items to wards, clinics and departments
- Safely load, unload and manoeuvre linen cages and trolleys in line with manual handling guidance
- Follow planned delivery routes and respond flexibly to service demand and urgent requests
- Decant, rotate and store linen correctly, ensuring stock is available and accessible
- Use digital systems to record linen movements, stock levels and audits
- Monitor linen quality and report shortages, defects or issues promptly
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control when handling clean and used linen
- Communicate professionally with clinical and non‑clinical staff and provide good customer service
- Adhere to health & safety procedures and report incidents, near misses and hazards
- Support wider Facilities services when required and undertake duties appropriate to Band 2

Essential criteria:
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure in busy periods
- To communicate effectively with colleagues and management
- To be self‑motivated and use your initiative when on duty, while always being mindful to follow team protocol
- To have pride in providing a high quality service
- Physically fit and strong, with the ability to move linen items on a daily basis
- Mobile enough to comfortably transport linen cages and other items throughout the hospital on a daily basis
Desirable criteria:
- Previous experience working within a healthcare environment such as the NHS
- Knowledge of portering or similar roles within a healthcare environment
