Job Title: Medical Laboratory Assistant

Location: The Halo Building, 1 Mabledon Place, London, WC1H 9AX

Contract / Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Fixed-term (12 months until May 2027)

Salary range: Up to £33,818 per annum DOE inclusive of regional allowance

About the role

A fixed-term (12 months), full-time position for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Haematology Department at The Halo Building, 1 Mabledon Place, London. The laboratory operates an 8:00am‑9:00pm service; the candidate will be expected to participate in shifts to cover this period, according to departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and separating different types of biological samples for laboratory testing and assisting Biomedical Scientists with routine diagnostics analytical work.
  • Entering patient requests into the pathology computer system, assigning laboratory numbers and carrying out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures.
  • Packaging biological samples for testing at external centres in accordance with handling regulations for biohazard materials.
  • Answering enquiries from health care professionals at the hospital, in the community and patients regarding the specimen type, processing state and expected time frames for laboratory investigations.

Qualifications

No prior experience required. Candidates should have computer skills, good verbal and written communication skills, work well in a team and have a flexible approach to workload and task allocation. A standard DBS check is required.
