SEN Teaching Assistant – Graduates and previous Care workers

Location: Newport (NP20)

Contract: Full-time

We are recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Newport, supporting pupils with additional learning needs, including autism, social, emotional and behavioural needs and complex learning difficulties.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
• Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
• Support behaviour using clear and consistent strategies
• Help pupils develop communication, social, and life skills
• Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
• Support with personal care where required
• Monitor progress and report back to teaching staff
• Follow safeguarding procedures at all times

Qualifications

• Graduates (Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care, or related fields)
• Individuals with experience in care (residential care, support work, mental health, youth work)
• Candidates looking to move into education or build experience in SEN
• Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
• Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
• Calm, resilient, and adaptable under pressure
• A genuine interest in supporting individuals with additional needs
• Willingness to obtain a DBS and register with the EWC (support provided)
• Valuable experience for those pursuing teaching or psychology careers
• Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
• Access to training and professional development
