About the Role

Help us grow Special Olympics Swansea by recruiting, welcoming and supporting volunteers to create more inclusive sporting opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

What difference will you make?

The Volunteer Coordinator will play a vital role in helping Special Olympics Swansea grow in a sustainable and well‑organised way.

As a new area, we need more than just good ideas. We need people around us who can help turn those ideas into real opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This role will help us identify, welcome and retain the volunteers needed to build that foundation.

This role will help Special Olympics Swansea grow its reach, strengthen community connections and build a welcoming local network around inclusive sport.

  • An interest in inclusion, community development or sport

You do not need previous experience in disability sport or Special Olympics. We are open to people with transferable skills and a genuine passion for helping others get involved.

Personal qualities are especially important in this role. We are looking for someone who is friendly, reliable, proactive and committed to creating positive opportunities for others.

What will you be doing?

Special Olympics Swansea is looking for a volunteer Volunteer Coordinator to help us build and support a strong local volunteer team.

This is an important role for a new and growing Special Olympics area. You will help us attract, welcome and support volunteers who can contribute in different ways, including events, administration, coaching support, fundraising, communications and committee roles.

You do not need to have previous experience with Special Olympics. We are looking for someone who is organised, friendly, proactive and passionate about helping people get involved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping recruit new volunteers through local outreach, networks and promotion
  • Being a welcoming first point of contact for potential volunteers
  • Helping match volunteers to suitable roles based on their interests and skills
  • Supporting volunteer onboarding and helping people feel included and valued
  • Keeping in touch with volunteers and helping maintain good engagement
  • Working with the Chair and wider team to identify priority volunteer roles
  • Helping us build a positive, inclusive and well‑organised volunteer culture
  • Supporting the development of a local volunteer pathway as Special Olympics Swansea grows

This is a flexible volunteer role and much of the work can be done remotely, with occasional local meetings or attendance at activities and events.
