Administration Apprentice – Private Sector Housing Team

East Suffolk Council

Location: East Suffolk House, Melton, Woodbridge IP12 1RT or Riverside, Lowestoft, Suffolk NR33 OEQ (dependent on your preference)

Salary: £16,341 (Year 1) rising to £24,521 (Year 2) per annum, NLW (National Living Wage)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 21 months starting 14 September 2026

Your role

The role consists of working as part of a small, friendly team supporting and helping members of the public with housing problems. It will predominantly involve general administration, handling telephone and email enquiries, and processing client information on an in‑house database. As the role progresses, you will be trained to make decisions on eligibility of clients to receive housing‑related services and to signpost clients to other services that can support them. You will also support the Business Operations team, shadow staff during onsite inspections, and contribute to projects such as Empty Homes initiatives, Sizewell C (Housing), Warm Homes Healthy People (WHHP), Health and Housing, Grants for repairs, improvements and disabled adaptations, and Fire Safety initiatives.

What you will need

Excellent interpersonal skills, an aptitude for ICT, and ideally 4 GCSEs at Grades 4–9 (or Grade C and above) including English and Maths. No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided. A passion to be a positive and professional ambassador for the council and to provide the best experience for our customers is a must.
