Overview

The role

The Emergency Complex at Glasgow Royal Infirmary comprises the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit, managing approximately 350 patients per day. The complex cares for a varied range of patients from the Northeast of Glasgow. The position is for an experienced Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to join our Emergency Department Team.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • 36 hours permanent – 1 post
  • 22.69 hours permanent – 1 post
  • 34.1 hours permanent – 1 post
  • 36 hours per a fixed‑term 12‑month contract – 1 post

The roles are based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The shift pattern is 11.5 hours rotational over 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (personal hygiene, dressing) while adhering to manual handling procedures and policies.
  • Support the delivery of patient care in alignment with the team’s purpose and philosophy.
  • Share responsibility for key aspects of care delivery, demonstrating an awareness of cost efficiency and safety.
  • Provide patient care in support of a Registered nurse to ensure high quality care.
  • Record and report patient observations and update care plans.
  • Co‑operate with and maintain good relationships with other disciplines attending and treating clients.
  • Maintain good relationships with clients’ carers and relatives and refer them to a trained nurse for queries or concerns.
  • Report changes in the clients’ physical/psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate records for effective communication.
  • Work within Divisional policies and procedures to ensure safe working practices for patients and colleagues.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

Competence in extended roles such as ECG recording, venepuncture, cannulation (minimum) is desired. Applicants should have previous experience in an Emergency Department or Acute Assessment Unit or equivalent acute experience. Please see attached Person Specification.
