Located in Newton Aycliffe, UK, we occupy a 10,000 m² purpose‑built Class 100 manufacturing facility fully equipped to produce state‑of‑the‑art compound semiconductor products.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Ensure Health & Safety standards and procedures are adhered to, including Risk Assessment and JSA.
- Self-motivated planning and delivery of breakdown and planned maintenance activities.
- Observe site priorities and deliver activities in line with site guidance.
- Operate in accordance with Maximo/CMMS, including accurate and timely recording of information.
- Safely diagnose and rectify plant breakdowns, undertake root cause reviews and implement remedial actions to minimise downtime and probability of fault reoccurrence.
- Undertake planned maintenance in a timely manner, reviewing findings and adjusting frequencies.
- Share technical knowledge on specialism with others and assist with multidisciplined training.
- Actively engage with process operators, developing ability to operate process plant.
- Uphold site and UK standards, ensuring site complies with ISO9001/ISO14001/ISO45001.
- Develop, undertake and own continuous improvement projects and activities.
Main Tasks
- Proactive participation in all HSE activities including Risk Assessment and Method Statements.
- Proactive role in developing a positive safety, environmental and quality culture to satisfy ISO 45001/14001/9001.
- Utilise CMMS to identify, analyse and record PMs and breakdowns in accordance with electrical maintenance schedules.
- Self‑led and motivated delivery of comprehensive Planned Maintenance Schedules, including timely input of information and review of findings to make recommendations on frequencies and suitability of maintenance activity.
- Work closely with process technicians and monitor plant to ensure breakdowns are remediated in a safe, effective and efficient manner, minimising disruption to supply of service.
- Analyse, maintain and rectify fault conditions across a range of plant, equipment and systems, including Root Cause Analysis and subsequent development and implementation of improvement plans.
- Inspect, check and test motor control centres and electrical distribution systems, including DOL, Star Delta and Variable Speed Drives.
- Operate and diagnose fault conditions on electrical power distribution equipment.
- Ensure high standards of engineering principles and procedures, with a good understanding of DSEAR and Hazardous Area Equipment Inspections in compliance with relevant ISO Standards and Guidelines.
- Play an active role in identifying and implementing facilities plant improvements to increase reliability, efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Understand how variations in facilities plant and services can impact fabrication plant performance.
- Play an active role in problem solving during major events using appropriate tools and techniques, e.g. 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D and other Root Cause tools.
- Liaise with vendors and field service engineers for assistance in service contracts, breakdowns and telephone support.
- Flexible and willing to work throughout the operation to achieve business goals.
- Contribute towards Key Performance Indicators to achieve Engineering targets.
- Contribute towards training of fellow Technicians, Operators and Apprentices.
Experience
- Time‑served apprenticeship from an Electrical Maintenance background/discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years’ post‑apprentice knowledge and experience of Process/Chemical Plant.
Key Skills
- Familiarity with COSHH and ability to write method statements and risk assessments.
- Solid and wide-ranging understanding of electrical drives, MCC, and electrical distribution systems as utilised on Chemical and Process Plant.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a strong appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies.
- Pro‑active approach to maintenance with excellent and proven electrical fault diagnosis skills using wiring and distribution drawings.
- Working knowledge of ventilation and air conditioning plant and motor maintenance.
- Knowledge of lighting and emergency UPS systems and switching operations.
- Comprehensive IT skills covering main software packages.
- Pro‑active, self‑motivated and capable of working without direct supervision.
- Creative approach to specific tasks and willing to become multidisciplined.
- Team player with good communication skills who is results and performance driven.
Education & Qualifications
- Educated to a minimum of ONC with a recognised apprenticeship.
