Join CAE’s Civil Aviation Training team as a Simulator Flight Instructor Trainer (Train‑the‑Trainer role) in Burgess Hill or Gatwick (Crawley).
This role is central to maintaining the quality and consistency of CAE’s global instructor community. As a Simulator Flight Instructor Trainer, you will develop confident, competent instructors through harmonised methodologies, a strong competency‑based approach, and professional instructional practice. Reporting to the Head of Civil Global Instructor Development and Training (IDT), the role ensures globally aligned, high‑quality instructor onboarding and development, while supporting instructor‑training courseware and global standardisation initiatives in line with regulatory and training standards.
Description
- Deliver and support Civil Global Instructor Development and Training (IDT) programmes, applying global instructional standards consistently across all instructor‑training activities.
- Act as an Instructor Trainer, Mentor, and Coach by demonstrating best instructional practices, providing structured feedback, and role‑modeling CAE’s competency‑based teaching philosophy.
- Ensure consistent delivery, governance, and quality of IDT programmes in alignment with global standards, regulatory obligations, and CAE training requirements.
- Contribute to the development, revision, and continuous improvement of instructor‑facing courseware in accordance with approved IDT courseware management and governance processes.
- Deliver high‑quality instructor training using modern digital‑learning methodologies, including effective facilitation in virtual environments.
- Collaborate with Training Managers, Training Standards Specialists, HR partners, Operations, and global/regional Standards leadership to forecast instructor‑training needs and support pipeline readiness.
- Support global instructor‑training planning and execution, including onboarding pathways, qualification sequencing, and effective resource utilisation.
- Promote global standardisation through cross‑centre coordination, clear communication channels, and alignment with CAE’s Standards structure and strategies.
- Apply performance metrics and quality standards by tracking instructor progress, training outcomes, and quality indicators; identify trends, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support, encourage, and report Academy performance metrics (OKRs and KPIs) to enhance training efficiency and instructional outcomes.
- Conduct instructor observations, evaluations, and feedback sessions using established competency frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold or have held an EASA or UK ATPL or CPL licence.
- Hold or have held, as required by Training Centre and NAA requirements, one of the following:
- FAA Instructor Certificate, or
- Part‑FCL Instructor Certificate issued by an EASA member state, or
- An equivalent 900(c) qualification relevant to the flight‑training domain.
- Minimum of three years’ experience delivering or managing instructor‑training programmes, ideally within an ATO, AOC, or global training organisation.
- Working knowledge of regulatory training frameworks (e.g. EASA Part‑FCL/ORA, FAA Parts 61/135/142) as they relate to instructor qualification and oversight.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and influencing skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cultures and time zones.
- Highly organised and structured, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong analytical capability, including interpreting and applying OKRs, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Word, and online facilitation tools.
- Experience delivering instructor‑development programmes (e.g. Teaching & Learning, CBTA fundamentals, CRM, briefing/debriefing techniques, instructor competencies, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated expertise in adult‑learning principles and competency‑based training and assessment (CBTA/EBT).
- Strong capability and confidence delivering training in virtual learning environments.
- Experience developing instructor‑facing courseware, including lesson plans, presentations, and assessment tools.
- Experience mentoring and developing instructors, tutors, coaches, or assessors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi‑domain aviation‑training experience (e.g. Business Aviation, Commercial Airline Training, or Flight Training) with the ability to support multiple business units.
- Experience overseeing courseware lifecycle management, including structured update and governance processes.
- Familiarity with global instructor onboarding pathways (e.g. new‑hire onboarding, Part 1, CBTA, CRM, IPPM/DOI, and training‑sequencing logic).
- Experience coordinating or leading multi‑centre or global instructor‑training initiatives.
- Experience conducting instructor evaluations and assessments using standardised competency frameworks.
