Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to train as a respiratory physiologist at NUH. Applicants will need to have the minimum of a BSc at 2:1 in a healthcare related science, and be employed in a lung function and sleep services department. You must already be competent to perform some of the investigations listed in the job description. During the training period you will be delivering basic respiratory and sleep clinical technical services under supervision as required whilst studying to gain a Diploma level qualification.

Applicants would also be considered on a band 5 Annex 21 pay scale – applicants needs to be very clear in their additional information as to the terms of their application.

Main duties of the job

You will be working in a direct patient facing role, performing respiratory and sleep related investigations and procedures. You will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to use tact, persuasion, empathy and diplomacy in order to obtain maximal patient effort throughout the testing procedure. You must be able to work as an effective member of the team, and plan your own work and meet agreed targets on an ongoing basis. There may be an element of cross site working within this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To perform a range of basic respiratory diagnostic investigations such as spirometry, lung volume and gas transfer measurements and the collection and analysis of capillary blood gases. You will also be involved in the delivery of the sleep service, with CPAP issue and the ongoing review of CPAP use.

  • Minimum BSc 2:1 related to healthcare environment.
  • Practical experience in a range of respiratory and sleep related investigations.
  • Currently employed within a lung function and sleep services department.
  • Any respiratory and sleep related professional qualifications.

  • Currently performing a range of lung function and sleep related investigations as detailed in the job description.

  • Previous experience in presenting data in a formal meeting situation.
