Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast paced, highly technical engineering team. This is a hands on design role suited to someone who enjoys working on multiple projects simultaneously, taking concepts from first principles through to fully working, tested solutions.

Mechanical Design Engineer – Day to day responsibilities

• Mechanical design using 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Inventor experience) designing innovative designs and new mechanical systems for client products
• Managing and prioritising multiple projects in an agile environment
• Producing detailed designs for mechanical systems, machined components and assemblies
• Carrying out first principles hand calculations and GD&T for loads, forces, torque, fatigue, and material strengths
• Specifying materials and defining testing requirements, including load testing
• The Mechanical Design Engineer will be designing mechanical systems with a strong focus on functionality, safety, and ergonomics
• Supporting designs through manufacture and build

About you

You’ll be a confident, technically strong Mechanical Design Engineer who understands where to start on new designs, how forces act through assemblies, and how to validate designs properly.

Essential experience:

• Around 5 years’ experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering role
• Strong competence with Inventor or SolidWorks
• Solid understanding of:
• Load and force calculations
• Fatigue in materials
• Material selection
• Machined component design
• Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances and relevant standards
