About the Role

As a Group Support Volunteer, you’ll support and encourage people affected by dementia to engage in activities and socialise with others in a group setting. You’ll welcome and talk to participants, help them feel comfortable, offer refreshments, and assist with setting up and tidying up.

Groups you can support

  • Sports and Social Activity group – 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Thursdays 14:00‑16:00. Seated games led by AFC Wimbledon facilitator.
  • Forget Me Nots group – Memory Merton Hub, 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Wednesdays 10:00‑12:00. Activities include arts & crafts, reminiscing through artefacts, role‑play and gardening.
  • Lively Rhythm and Moves group – 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Wednesdays 15:00‑17:00. Chair exercises.
  • Dementia Cafe – Raynes Park Library, Bradbury Court, 21 Approach Road, Raynes Park, London SW20 8RA – Mondays 09:30‑12:00.

What you’ll be great for the role if:

  • You have good verbal communication and listening skills.
  • You enjoy meeting new people and being part of a team.
  • You are aware of or willing to learn about dementia and its impact on people.
  • You can demonstrate empathy and compassion.
  • You are over the age of 16.
