Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic, and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We’re working towards ambitious targets by 2025 and need people who are driven, dynamic, and ready to deliver the best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role offers a real opportunity to transform the way we work and place residents at the heart of everything we do.

Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values guide how we deliver services and communicate with the residents we serve, aiming for the best outcomes for local people.

We are proud of Liverpool’s rich culture, affordable housing, good schools, and beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone.

The role:

  • The Specialist Support Teacher role provides a unique opportunity to advise and work in collaboration with SENDCos, Headteachers, setting managers, teachers, practitioners, external agencies, voluntary organisations, and parents.
  • The post holder will offer strategic support and guidance in establishing and addressing school SEND priorities and inclusive practices and advise on the assessment and identification of special educational needs as part of the assess, plan, do, review cycle, to ensure positive short- and longer-term outcomes for pupils with SEND across the city.
  • We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience with SEND in the foundation and primary key stages and who is willing to work in secondary maintained schools, academies, free schools, and post-16 establishments if necessary.
  • The Specialist Support Teacher may partner with the SEN Team to complete educational advice (Appendix Bs) for the EHC needs assessment for children and young people from 0-25 who are not on roll in an educational setting.
  • As a Specialist Support Teacher, the post holder must be an accomplished, dynamic, motivated, and appropriately qualified teacher with extensive SEND experience. They must be committed to independently developing and evolving their expertise in SEND, including SEND Law, the SEND Code of practice, SEND Reforms, and the EHCP process, as well as updating their knowledge of new strategies, approaches, resources, and publications to implement and review effective practices.

Our offer to you:

  • Teachers Pay and Conditions with a hybrid working model
  • Agile working – a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception.
  • Teachers Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
  • Progression – opportunities and training through a wide range of high-quality learning
  • Health and Wellbeing – offer including Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Family-friendly policies with enhanced leave
  • Discounted Gym Memberships
  • Employee Volunteering Scheme

The eligibility to work in the UK will be verified during the final stages of the selection process. All candidates must either already have a right to work in the UK before commencing employment or meet the Home Office criteria for visa sponsorship. Candidates who require sponsorship should evaluate the Home Office eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa before applying.

Liverpool City Council is committed to fostering a workforce representative of the communities we serve. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we believe in appointing candidates based on their skills, experience, qualifications, and abilities. To support this commitment, we guarantee an interview to candidates from under-represented groups who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role.
