About the role

Do you have lived experience of mental health needs? As a Peer Support Worker within our Crisis House service, you will work alongside Recovery Workers and other staff to offer practical and emotional support, drawing directly from your own experience of mental health difficulties or caring for someone who experiences mental health difficulties.

Key information:

  • Hours: 15 flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; bank casual hours also available.
  • Salary: £24,775.13 – £25,498.72 per annum.
  • Location: Sheffield Crisis House, 195 Harborough Avenue, S2 1UU.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the client throughout their journey to achieve personal goals.
  • Support clients to access statutory support, including psychological interventions.
  • Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of community resources and partner organisations to signpost clients and promote social inclusion.
  • Give clients a sense of hope, wellbeing and control over their lives.
  • Help clients engage with, build connections and a sense of belonging to their local communities.
  • Help clients gain satisfaction in different parts of their lives.
  • Live the values of Peer Support as described in the PSW Competency Framework 2020.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience or knowledge of community mental health services, either through lived experience or work.
  • Experience communicating with people who have mental health difficulties in a supportive and beneficial way.
  • Proactive, positive attitude and ability to demonstrate careful listening and a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Ability to support self-management and place the person at the heart of their own support, working alongside them to achieve goals.
