Job Description:

Purpose

To carry out vehicle maintenance task ensuring legal compliance of the fleet, including planned and preventative work as well as unscheduled maintenance ensuring that all maintenance works and repairs are documented on the company’s chosen software for vehicle maintenance records.

About The Role

Monday-Friday – 7:30AM-6PM

Alternate Saturday mornings – 7AM-12PM

Areas Of Responsibility

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicle faults to the company’s expected high standards as set out in the DVSA’s guide to maintaining roadworthiness.
  • Document all works carried out on the company’s chosen software for vehicle maintenance records.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment in a timely manner with no undue delays.
  • Aim for a 100% MOT first time pass rate but not less than the 95% national average.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns at the roadside or customer premises to repair mechanical breakdowns, request further diagnosis in the workshop or communicate the need for recovery where required.
  • Maintain effective and constructive communication with other key colleagues daily.
  • Minimise downtime of vehicles and ensure vehicles are available for the Service Delivery Department at the earliest opportunity.
  • Obtain correct authorisation for any expenditure; parts requests are accurate to avoid slowing repair time.
  • Wear correct PPE or use it where required in the workshop; report defective equipment immediately.
  • Assist the Workshop Supervisor in carrying out scheduled equipment checks.
  • Ensure general housekeeping is carried out and the workshop is kept clean and tidy.
  • Communicate any issues that arise in the workshop to your Workshop Supervisor or Transport Manager.

  • Strong understanding of transport legislation and vehicle maintenance compliance.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • Approachable and able to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and suppliers.
  • Confident using IT systems and electronic maintenance records.
  • Perform any other tasks as instructed by Senior Management which are in keeping with the job role.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience working in an HGV/LGV workshop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Operator Licence vehicle maintenance compliance.
  • Working knowledge of DVSA’s Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and defect categorisation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Category C driving licence.
  • IRTEC Inspection Technician qualification (or willingness to complete within first 6 months).

Desirable

  • Experience within the waste or recycling industry.
  • Use of electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of ADR regulations for the carriage of dangerous goods.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • Category CE driving licence.
