About Job

Personal Assistant/Carer required to assist a disabled woman living with chronic illness to live independently. The role includes personal & practical assistance, meal preparation, housekeeping, companionship, personal care, outings, and transportation.

Hours of work: 18.5 hours per week, in three or four sessions or optionally a job share between two assistants. Working days and hours will be discussed at interview.

Rate of pay: £17.00 per hour (if employed) or £22.00 per hour (if self‑employed). Self‑employed applicants must provide proof of HMRC registration and liability insurance to Warrington Borough Council.

Background in creative industries is advantageous; aim for applicants with interests in the arts.

Main Duties

  • Meal Preparation
    • Prepare meals that adhere to the client’s very restricted diet.
    • Adapt recipes and ingredients as necessary.
    • Ensure proper nutrition and hydration in accordance with dietary restrictions and medical needs.
  • Housekeeping
    • Assist in keeping bedroom and shower tidy and clean.
    • Light housekeeping tasks such as making bed, organising personal items, maintaining a clutter‑free space, and assisting with laundry.
  • Companionship & Emotional Support
    • Provide companionship, engage in conversations and activities of interest.
    • Foster a caring and empathetic atmosphere; demonstrate patience and respect so the client feels valued and understood.
  • Personal Care
    • Assist with washing if required.
    • Prepare a bath or shower as needed, and provide occasional support with bathing.
    • Occasional support with medical supplies; willingness to learn about medical device use.
    • Empty and clean a commode as required.
  • Outings & Transportation
    • Accompany the client on outings and provide assistance and support, including wheelchair use.
    • Drive the client to medical appointments and other essential errands, ensuring safety and comfort during travel.
  • Car Owner/Driver – Applicant must own a car used for business purposes and insure it appropriately.
  • Safety & Medical Response – Must be ready to seek urgent medical advice or assistance in case of medical episodes or deterioration.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in health care with people living with chronic health conditions.
  • Experience in providing personal and practical assistance to disabled individuals.
  • Readiness to seek urgent medical advice or assistance.
  • Body‑weight handling and mobility support skills.
  • Good communication and empathy.
  • Car ownership and valid driving licence, with appropriate insurance for business use.
  • Linked to health‑care environment and/or experience with disabled or aged care.

Additional Requirements

  • A probationary period will be included for the successful applicant.
  • Applicants must complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
