Role Overview
The head teacher will manage the affairs of the school, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and the general duty of care owed to staff and pupils. They will formulate clear aims and policies to achieve these aims, communicate them to staff, pupils, parents and users of the school, and act as the principal professional adviser to the Parent Council. They will also represent the Council as required under the Parental Involvement Act 2006.
Responsibilities
- Manage the affairs of the school to the benefit of pupils and the wider community.
- Formulate clear aims for the school and policies to ensure their achievement within the Council’s framework.
- Communicate aims and policies to all staff, pupils, parents and other users of the school.
- Act on behalf of the Council and advise the Parent Council.
- Obtain the Standard for Headship within 30 months of appointment.
Qualifications & Standards
- Holding the Standard for Headship or achieving it within 30 months of appointment.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council (Scotland).
- Qualified to provide a teaching level (teacher with the Standard for Headship).
- Ability to meet the statutory duties of care and statutory teaching standards.
