A bit about the role
We are looking for a versatile and safety‑conscious Shunter Driver to join our team. This unique “hybrid” role requires a professional driver who is equally comfortable behind the wheel of a Class 1 vehicle and operating MHE within a fast‑paced warehouse environment. While your primary focus will be supporting our warehouse operations, your expertise as a Class 1 driver is essential for our shunting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Shunting Operations: Safely and efficiently move LGVs and trailer units across our sites (Rudie’s Kitchen and Ace’s Pantry) and on adjoining public roads; manoeuvre units into storage or loading bays with precision.
- Warehouse Operations: Operate a variety of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE), primarily Reach Trucks within our 10m fully racked chillers and freezers, and also counterbalance and ride‑on forklift trucks.
- Inventory & Systems: Perform accurate stock counts and system transactions to maintain inventory integrity.
- Quality & Safety: Conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure product specifications are met; prioritise safety by wearing PPE and following all site procedures.
- Facility Standards: Maintain a “clean as you go” approach, contributing to the hygiene of floors, walls, and conveyors, and assist with waste processing and order packing.
- Performance: Work towards defined KPIs and participate in daily review meetings to help drive warehouse performance.
- Working Hours: Participate in a rolling shift rotation of 41 hours per week, covering a mix of days, nights, and weekends (7am‑7pm days, 7pm‑7am nights).
- Shift Rotations Examples: 4 on/4 off = 2 days, 2 nights; 5 on/5 off = 3 days, 2 nights; 5 on/5 off = 2 days, 3 nights.
Qualifications
- Essential: Valid Class 1 (HGV Category C+E) licence for shunting duties.
- Essential: Genuine willingness to work within a cold‑store warehouse environment and undergo training on various MHE (Reach, Counterbalance, etc.).
- Previous experience with Counterbalance, PPT, or LLOP is highly desirable.
- Confident use of warehouse IT equipment.
- Comfortable working in temperatures as low as ‑40°C and outside yard work in changing weather conditions.
- Adaptable to changing work environments with varied day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Working level speaking English; ability to read English.
- Numerate – able to understand and work with numbers.
- Comfortable working in an environment that processes raw protein.
