Behaviour Teaching Assistant – PRU
Location: Feltham (walking distance from Feltham Station) • Start Date: ASAP • Contract: Full‑time, Monday to Friday • Position Type: Long‑term role with potential to become permanent.
A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Feltham is seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support KS3 and KS4 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full‑time, long‑term opportunity starts ASAP, with the potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Support secondary‑aged pupils (KS3–KS4) with SEMH needs.
- Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour both in and out of the classroom.
- Support full classes while maintaining a calm, safe and productive learning environment.
- Assist teachers with behaviour‑related disruption, classroom transitions and daily routines.
- Use de‑escalation techniques to reduce conflict and support emotional regulation.
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with high‑level behavioural needs.
- Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with students.
Requirements
- Proven experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
- Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs.
- Strong understanding of de‑escalation strategies and conflict management.
- Confidence managing behaviour within a secondary school or alternative provision setting.
- Awareness of restraint techniques (training can be provided if certification has expired).
- Ability to work full‑time, Monday to Friday.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – essential.
