Role Overview
WSP’s Local Government team in Cardiff is recruiting a Head of Structural Engineering (Highways). In this leadership role you will drive technical excellence, manage project delivery, mentor a team of engineers, and collaborate closely with local government clients across South Wales to exceed client expectations and build strong relationships.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of structural engineers, maintaining a culture of collaboration and technical excellence.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to support professional development and chartership.
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
- Lead on the design of bridges and other highway structures.
- Lead on bridge strengthening, repairs, inspections, and assessments.
- Supervise and mentor colleagues, including developing professionals.
- Finance and project manage schemes.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in bridge and highway structures design, assessment, and project management gained from work on both construction sites and design offices.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK highways standards and contract documentation (e.g., DMRB, NEC4).
- Knowledge in design, maintenance, and supervision of structure-related projects, with a track record of innovation in design and management.
- Experience in design or assessment of steel, reinforced, and prestressed concrete bridge structures.
- Good communication and client relationship building skills.
