The Role

We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Teesdock Terminal. This role is essential to maintaining mechanical integrity, reliability, and safe operation of critical terminal assets in a demanding coastal bulk handling environment. The successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum equipment availability and operational performance.

The Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform planned preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical equipment across the terminal.
  • Carry out repairs on conveyors, chutes, hoppers, ship loading, and rail unloading equipment.
  • Install, assemble, align, and test mechanical systems and components.
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimise downtime.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with engineers and supervisors to resolve issues.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.

Problem Solving & Decision Making

  • Diagnose faults and take appropriate corrective action to minimise disruption.
  • Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.

Resource Use

  • Ensure efficient use of tools, equipment, and materials during maintenance and repair activities.

The Requirements

  • Time served Mechanical Fitter with proven experience in an industrial environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 / C&G Level 3 mechanical engineering qualification, or equivalent.
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Risk Assessment trained and IOSH Working Safely certified.
  • Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible, proactive, and safety‑focused approach.
