We are recruiting a dedicated Post-16 Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Horsham, supporting Key Stage 5 students within a nurturing and highly supportive environment. This role focuses heavily on PSHE, life skills, emotional wellbeing, and independence , helping students develop the confidence and practical skills needed for life beyond education.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced LSAs, Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, Support Workers, or care professionals looking to build a long-term career within SEN and Post-16 education.

The Role

As a Post-16 Learning Support Assistant, you will support students both academically and emotionally, helping them engage with learning, regulate emotions, and develop important life and social skills.

You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and therapists to provide tailored support that encourages independence, confidence, and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assisting with PSHE, life skills, employability, and independence-focused learning
  • Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Encouraging communication, confidence, and social interaction
  • Helping students develop routines and practical life skills
  • Building positive and consistent relationships with young people
  • Supporting students both inside and outside the classroom environment
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Following safeguarding procedures and participating in ongoing CPD and training

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced as a Teaching Assistant, LSA, Behaviour Support Worker, Support Worker, or similar
  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEN, SEND, SEMH, or additional needs
  • Calm, patient, and resilient in their approach
  • Confident supporting behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • A strong communicator and positive team player
  • Motivated to help students build independence and prepare for adulthood
  • Interested in long-term progression within SEN or specialist education
