Join our ambitious Estates Team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We are on a mission to become the best Estates team in the NHS! As an Estates Maintenance Worker, you will be part of a 40 member team focused on continuous learning and development.
Adhere to Trust regulations, especially those governing Health and Safety at work, and report any defects or hazards to the appropriate manager promptly.
Main duties of the job
Planned & Reactive Maintenance:
- Conduct routine checks and maintenance across various systems, such as emergency lighting testing in line with Trust schedules.
General Building & Electrical Support:
- Carry out basic electrical and mechanical repairs, including changing light bulbs, replacing lamps, and repairing nurse call handsets.
- Perform minor building fabric repairs, including basic plumbing, ceiling tile replacement, and simple joinery/decoration works.
Operational Monitoring & Compliance:
- Collect and accurately record operational data, such as utility meter readings and basic plant performance monitoring.
Safety & Quality Assurance:
- Maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of all hospital equipment, machinery, tools, vehicles, and work areas.
- Ensure strict adherence to all Health and Safety regulations and Trust procedures, prioritizing the well‑being of staff, patients and visitors.
Professional Development & Teamwork:
- Work collaboratively within the Estates team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility to meet service needs.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of workforce safety procedures.
- Basic IT skills.
- Working on own initiative with minimum supervision.
- Ability to prioritise a demanding workload.
- Use of relevant tools and equipment.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management, staff, patients and members of the public.
Experience
- Practical experience in electrical, mechanical and building maintenance.
- Knowledge of boiler plant, water systems and basic utilities.
- Ability to work under supervision and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills for reporting issues, liaising with colleagues and interacting with hospital staff.
- Awareness of Health & Safety legislation, including safe working practices and infection control.
- Basic IT literacy to record data and complete reports.
- Experience in NHS or healthcare estates/facilities environment.
- Competence in minor plumbing, carpentry or joinery tasks.
- Familiarity with risk assessment procedures and incident reporting.
- Understanding of environmental sustainability initiatives in a workplace setting.
Education, Qualifications & Training
- Base level of theoretical knowledge.

- Able to travel to other sites and off site as necessary.
