To provide practical and person-centred support to an individual with a learning difficulty, helping them to understand and manage everyday administrative tasks. This position requires empathy, reliability, patience, and flexibility. You will work under the direct guidance of the employer, responding to their individual needs. The ability to use initiative, exercise good judgement, and maintain confidentiality is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with understanding bills, letters, and general/official correspondence
- Support with making telephone calls and booking appointments – help communicate with organisations such as government departments, healthcare providers, or service providers
- Carry out basic research to gather information – support the individual in understanding and completing forms accurately
- Maintain accurate records, including telephone logs and copies of correspondence sent and received
- Organise paperwork to ensure it is easy to access when needed
The role requires flexibility, as support needs may vary. The Personal Assistant will work under the direction of the individual and must respect their choices, dignity, and independence always.
Qualifications and Skills
- Patient, kind, and understanding approach – understanding of barriers faced by people with learning disabilities
