Mental Health Support Worker – SEMH (Ages 5–16)
Location: Wallsend / Newcastle upon Tyne
Availability: Full-time | Temporary
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Leader Education are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join a specialist SEMH school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This role involves supporting pupils aged 11–16 within a nurturing and structured environment that prioritises modern education and helps young people realise their full potential.

The Role
- Supporting pupils aged 11‑16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Building positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported
- Delivering one‑to‑one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing
- Supporting pupils to manage behaviour and mental health challenges in a proactive and positive manner
- Encouraging engagement, independence, confidence, and self‑esteem
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals
- Contributing to a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s values
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, mental health, or additional needs (desirable but not essential)
- Is empathetic, patient, and emotionally resilient
- Demonstrates excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- Is committed to promoting respect, honesty, trust, compassion, and integrity
- Is confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Holds a valid DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one
