Job Description
We are looking for a Bridge Inspector at an Engineer or Senior Engineer grade to join our Bridges team in WSP Basingstoke office and lead bridge inspections for our local clients. We deliver a broad range of exciting projects, providing new and varied opportunities with our existing clients and within the wider WSP business.
As a Bridge Inspector within our team you will undertake principal, general and inspections for assessment of bridges and a variety of other structures across the region. You will use your experience to provide technical input to projects, project briefs and proposals, always demonstrating compliance with Health, Safety, Welfare and CDM responsibilities.
Your Team
You will be an integral part of a highly collaborative and supportive team of approximately 45 professionals based in Basingstoke. Our team brings together a broad range of technical expertise, working closely across disciplines to inspect highways and railway bridges and ensure the safe operation of critical infrastructure. We make use of the latest inspection techniques and digital technologies to improve safety, efficiency, and the quality of data we deliver to our clients. The team’s shared vision is to provide high‑quality, fast‑paced outcomes, underpinned by strong technical standards, continuous improvement, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Responsibilities
Lead bridge inspections and assess structures across the region, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and safety standards. Provide technical input to projects, create clear engineering deliverables, and manage inspection workflows using the Screening Eagle INSPECT app. Conduct principal, general and special inspections and coordinate with clients to meet access requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience working in a team with extensive structural assessment expertise.
- Passion for structures and an interest in understanding how they work and perform.
- Experience undertaking Principal, General and Special Inspections of Bridges and other Structures to DMRB and Network Rail standards.
- Experience producing clear and concise engineering deliverables with minimum supervision, including written reports, calculations, sketches and specifications.
- Experience using tablet‑based inspection and surveying software; ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver a work bank of inspections and review reports.
- STE04 competency for Network Rail inspections or Highways Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) qualification, or motivation to work towards STE04 with mentoring and training.
- PTS certification welcomed.
- Will occasionally work overnight and on weekends to meet client access periods; overtime is paid.
- Understand and comply with Health, Safety, Welfare and CDM responsibilities.
- Take responsibility for personal development and support the development of others.
