Role Overview

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: £24,794 FTE per annum

Annual Leave: 31 days per annum (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)

As our Technician in Fabrication & Welding, you will support student learning and provide a safe working environment, preparing equipment and materials for students, and maintaining stock efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organisation of practical workspace areas to ensure effective utilisation of space and realistic work simulations and prepare materials for use by students including training aids and learning resources.
  • Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in practical workspace areas and to ensure compliance with all.
  • Ensure that practical learning environments, equipment, machines and plant comply with health and safety requirements, identify necessary actions and report through line management.
  • Manage a rolling programme of learning space and equipment maintenance including repairs and ensure relevant checks are made on machine tools, equipment and materials in accordance with Health and Safety requirements (i.e. PAT testing, COSHH, etc).
  • Contribute to the membership of course teams, attend staff meetings and liaise with staff on individual student progress and support needs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate, including maintaining records of student attendance and initial assessment.
  • Ensure that consumables, materials, preparation and stock control are available and prepared to the required level in practical learning environments.
  • Follow group financial procedures in ordering consumables and other practical equipment for line manager authorisation and update practical learning environment inventories annually.
  • Deliver taster sessions and attend open events as required.
  • Promote a teaching, learning and working environment that is free from discrimination and encourages students and staff to express their individuality.
  • Be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required commensurate with the level of responsibility within the College at any site.

Qualifications and Experience

  • GCSE (A–C) or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • First aid qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the subject specialism.
  • Recent experience of the subject specialism.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy/procedures.
  • Administrative and record‑keeping skills.
  • Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.
