School Caretaker / Premises Assistant – Primary School, Lambeth

Contracts: Immediate start, full-time. Location: South West London, Lambeth. Start Date: 1st June 2026. Temporary contract until July 2026.

Tradewind Recruitment is supporting a primary school in the Lambeth area who require a School Caretaker / Premises Assistant on a temporary contract basis, starting after the May half term. This would be a full-time, temporary contract until July 2026. Hours are typically structured around the school day, including early morning opening and late afternoon closing.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and security of the school site.
• Opening and closing the building.
• Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance.
• Managing deliveries.
• Ensuring communal spaces and outdoor areas are clean and safe.
• Supporting the preparation of rooms for events.
• Working closely with the headteacher and business manager to prioritise tasks.
• Liaising with contractors and ensuring the site complies with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a school caretaker, site manager or in a similar facilities role.
• Practical maintenance skills including minor repairs, plumbing and joinery (basic level).
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to a school or public building environment.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative to manage a varied workload.
• Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks and manage the site effectively.
• DBS clearance or willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
• Reliable, flexible and proactive approach to site management.

YOU MUST HAVE UP TO DATE HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING AND HOLD A CHILD ONLY ENHANCED DBS.
