Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, And Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors.
  • Facilitates communication within the unit and organization.
  • Assists the healthcare team in accurately maintaining patient medical records.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the team to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient.
  • Assists physicians and nurses and/or performs technical procedures delegated within the scope of practice.
  • Utilizes critical treatment skills such as phlebotomy, wound irrigation and dressing, EKGs, and specimen collection.
  • Will work through a competency list to include patient care tech skills, documentation, and all treatments or procedures listed above upon orientation.
  • Observes and reports any changes in patient condition or behavior to the RN or physician.
  • Assists with patient flow and keeps the department and patient rooms clean, stocked, and orderly.
  • Performs clerical duties including admission orders, filling out appropriate forms, arranging for patient transfers, and communicating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Politely answers the telephone and communicates information to the appropriate personnel or family.
  • Directs calls to the appropriate person/department.
  • Documents accurately and consciously the needs of the unit.
  • Communicates clearly, honestly, appropriately, and promptly with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Completes documentation with accuracy according to facility guidelines.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Respects the confidentiality of patient information and adheres to HIPAA and facility guidelines.
  • Demonstrates caring attitudes and behaviors to develop therapeutic relationships.
  • Demonstrates respect, equity, and empathy in actions and interactions with culturally diverse and vulnerable patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Completes all required annual education, training, in-services, and licensure/certification updates; actively participates in departmental and organizational meetings or reviews meeting minutes as required.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work punctually and completes assigned duties within established timeframes.
  • Actively contributes to departmental and organization-wide performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, maintaining adherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
  • Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.

Education, Licensure(s), and Certification(s)

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.), Medical Assistant (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) encumbered license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience

  • Clerical experience.
  • Clinical bedside experience.
