Passenger Transport Services (PTS) Coventry is responsible for delivering transport services to approximately 1,200 passengers daily, to schools and daycare centres with special educational needs and/or physical and/or sensory impairments.
PTS has a team of over 180 staff from casual to full‑time, supporting the service with 80 accessible minibus‑type vehicles. The positions being recruited are on a split‑shift basis — successful candidates must work in the morning and afternoon with a break in between.
What is the job role?
The job involves providing transportation for some of our most vulnerable people across Coventry. This can involve manually handling large wheelchairs and loading them on and off the minibuses. You will be dealing with a range of challenging behaviours potentially daily. Continuity is a vital part of the service we provide and we endeavour to keep the same driver and passenger assistant on the vehicle.
In summary, the role involves the following tasks:
- Undertake all driving duties in allocated vehicles as instructed by the PTS office team.
- Pick up service users and transport them to their point of destination using the vehicle in a safe, secure and caring manner.
- Take all reasonable steps to prevent service users from causing harm to themselves and/or others.
- Complete all paperwork as requested.
- Be punctual, adaptable and reliable.
The role is 20 hours a week, working 4 hours a day, which includes a split shift of 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. This is a term‑time only role. Applicants must be able to adhere to these shifts.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK. We are not offering sponsorship for this role.
Who are we looking for?
Professionalism and a good work ethic are essential. We expect our drivers to:
- Respect all clients and treat them with sensitivity and dignity at all times.
- Be flexible in working contracted hours over a standard working day and a 5‑day working week on a rota.
- Be patient, calm, resilient and understand the needs of SEN children and vulnerable adults.
Guaranteed Interview Scheme: We offer guaranteed interviews for specific groups of people. To qualify, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for the role and identify with one of the following criteria:
- Members of the Armed Forces and veterans
- Currently in care or have previously been in care
- Disabled or have a long‑term health condition
