Animal Technician – Job Overview
Our team is passionate about animal welfare and loves working with rabbits and rodents. In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in ensuring the well‑being of our animals, providing exceptional care to rabbits and rodents, including feeding, cleaning and breeding responsibilities in a production facility. We support your training and development to learn new skills, enabling you to progress in your role and to your next role.
Responsibilities
- Feed, clean and breed rabbits and rodents in a production facility.
- Maintain accurate records of breeding, feeding, cleaning and animal care activities.
- Coordinate order details, including selection, packaging and ensuring accuracy at all times.
- Participate in training and development to learn new skills and experiences.
- Be a great team player, flexible to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis, and happy to work overtime when needed.
Qualifications
- Genuine interest in animal development and breeding; comfortable handling and holding rabbits or rodents.
- Qualification in animal care (or similar) or previous experience working in an animal‑related environment.
- Attention to detail and strong record‑keeping skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early morning shifts (starting at 05:00) and finishing by 14:00 on Fridays.
- Must be able to drive; the site is rural with no public transport.
- Cannot have pet rodents (mice, rats or guinea‑pigs) or rabbits for biosecurity reasons; must not own animals that feed on rodents (snakes, birds).
Location & Benefits
This is a full‑time, 18‑month fixed‑term contract (with potential to be made permanent), based at our Hillcrest site in Belton, just outside Loughborough. Working hours vary by team; some start at 05:00 and all finish by 14:00 on Fridays. A starting salary of £26,501.83 (or more with experience). 33 days holiday (including 8 public holidays).
