Duties
Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.
- Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
- Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
- Producing time estimates.
- Maintaining repair and service records.
Qualifications Required
Minimum entry requirements:
- GCSE grades 9–4 (A–C) or equivalent in English, Maths and two other subjects.
- Scottish National 5 Grades A–C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject.
‘Equivalent’ grades and qualifications include:
- BTEC first diplomas and certificates
- OCR Nationals
- Key Skills Level 2
- NVQs
- Functional Skills Level 2 (Wales)
- Core Skills (Scotland)
