Together We Can Do is a charity based in the Fylde area which supports disabled adults to take part in sport and exercise on a regular basis. Our aims are:
· To provide safe, reliable, enjoyable and affordable sports activities
· To enable members to improve their performance and experience competition
· To enable members to have the opportunity to meet and socialise with others
We started our activities in May 2021 at the Blackpool Sports Centre with eight individuals attending the first session. These sessions proved to be popular, and attendance increased quickly, so that now almost 200 individuals take part in our programme of activities.
We currently deliver eight weekly sports sessions across the Fylde coast, and another is scheduled to commence in the next few months. We have teams taking part in Boccia England’s National League and the Lancashire FA Ability Counts League and over the next year hope to have teams taking part in other competitive sports.
Role Description
Our activities sessions are planned and delivered by a small staff team and supported by a group of DBS cleared volunteers. We need someone to be part of this team to run the regular sports sessions and support the development of the competitive activity programme. We currently have teams playing in the Lancashire FA Ability Counts League and in the Boccia England National League. Over the net year we aim to be taking part other sports competitive matches as well as increasing the number of non competitive activities.
We need someone who can ensure that our sports activities are delivered in a way that ensures the safety of those involved, encourages participation and enjoyment and improves knowledge and skills of those taking part.
You will need to be able to
· contribute to the planning and delivery of our activities tailored to adults with a range of disabilities
· ensure the safety of all participants during activities by adhering to health and safety guidelines
· encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play
· organise small competitions, games, and drills to promote active participation
· provide guidance, support, and motivation to help participants develop new skills and confidence
· maintain activity areas and equipment before, during, and after sessions
· communicate effectively with participants, support workers and volunteers to ensure a positive experience for all involved
· reflect upon your own performance and contribute to your professional development.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will need to hold a relevant sports qualification and be subject to satisfactory DBS and pre-employment checks.
Previous experience in working to promote inclusive activities is desirable but not essential. The willingness to learn and work part of the team are the key requirements as additional training will be provided.
