An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about technical services to join our friendly team of pharmacy assistants, technicians and pharmacists to help deliver safe, high-quality medicines to our patients in a timely manner.

You will be a key part of a team responsible for the timely provision of aseptically dispensed products, which include chemotherapy and intravenous additives. You will ensure that products are manufactured in line with operating procedures and that a safe and effective service is provided to its users.

In the absence of the team leader, you will be given the opportunity to supervise staff and manage the day-to-day running of the unit.

If you are a self‑motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the desire to learn and develop, then you are the person we are looking for.

You will already be a qualified Pharmacy Technician or currently undertaking NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services or equivalent (or working towards award) or the Science Medicine Technician qualification with aseptic experience.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a team responsible for the provision of aseptically dispensed products, which include chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, and intravenous additives, providing a high‑quality aseptic service and pre‑packs to meet the needs of the trust and external customers.

In the absence of the Team Leader and Unit Manager you will be asked to supervise staff and manage the day‑to‑day running of the unit.

You will work in close collaboration with other professionals e.g., Pharmacists, nurses, and other Pharmacy staff.

At all times you will be expected to work in accordance with laid down procedures and safe systems of work while working on your own. You will undertake within SOPs the checking of manufactured items.

You will train members of staff and support the Lead Technician, in providing training and re‑validation of staff. You will participate in the departmental evening, weekend and bank holiday rotas, early and late finishes.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Entry level standard Mathematics and English Language
  • NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent (aseptic units)
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services / SMT or equivalent (or working towards award)
  • Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or Science and manufacturing Award
  • Registered Pharmacy technician or science council

Experience

  • Significant relevant experience within aseptic services
  • Demonstrable experience in a role that requires following strict procedures and guidelines

Knowledge

  • Able to demonstrate theoretical knowledge to level 3 NVQ or equivalent
  • Understanding and knowledge of GMP
