Senior Occupational Therapist | East London NHS Foundation Trust

We are seeking for an experienced Senor Occupational Therapist to work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, to assess and provide interventions with people with mental illness, enabling clients to return to their home environment/community with their preference and best interest.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who wants to develop their junior management skills, and expert clinical skills, with excellent CPD opportunities.

The Occupational Therapy (OT) role will undertake initial assessment and OT specific assessment/intervention and provide a range of individual and/or group interventions.

Responsibilities

• To be responsible for an inpatient ward caseload of specialist OT assessment & interventions to ensure timely discharge from the wards.
• To develop and maintain links with Occupational Therapy service, relevant statutory and non- statutory agencies throughout City and Hackney.
• To provide clinical supervision to junior staff and support practice education of students.
• To provide an holistic functional service within the inpatient wards and lead on patient flow to the community.
• To provide assessments of the service user’s inpatient and home environment, including how their accommodation is meeting their needs and whether there are any unmet needs.
• To select and use validated standardised assessment tools routinely, exhibiting clinical reasoning skills, including the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO).
• To plan and implement service user led interventions, using graded activity and a wide range of treatment techniques to achieve outcome focused recovery goals.
• To work with service users in a variety of settings in order to provide the most effective assessment and interventions.
• To consider both physical and mental health needs as part of the OT assessment and to refer to appropriate agencies where there is a need for equipment.
• To undertake assessment of daily living skills to ascertain level of functional ability, risk factors, level of support/accommodation needs to support the development of community care plans.
• To use clinical reasoning to assess how the client’s mental health difficulties impact on their function in the occupational areas of self-care, productivity and leisure, as well as their performance in the cognitive, interpersonal and physical areas.
• To assess client’s mental state and identify any significant risk factors pertaining to community integration and undertake risk assessments.
