We are recruiting for a Patent Attorney for a leading regional UK law firm in their Essex office. The position will offer great breadth of experience and development opportunities, as afforded by the infrastructure of a top tier law firm. The team have qualified patent attorneys working alongside IP, litigation, corporate and commercial lawyers.
About the Role
We are currently looking for a qualified Patent Attorney to join a busy Essex based team. Ideally you will have between 0-3 years post qualification and must have full UK qualification.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Drafting and prosecuting UK, European, and international patent applications
- Advising on patent strategy, portfolio development, and IP risk
- Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
- Supporting EPO opposition and appeal proceedings
- Working closely with clients to translate complex technical concepts into commercially valuable IP protection
- Supporting business development and long-term client relationships
About You
- You will ideally have experience in and be comfortable handling a range of matters in the engineering, mechanical or electrical sectors. However, individuals with a bias towards any of these will be considered.
- You will have an excellent academic record – minimum 2.1 degree (or equivalent).
- Flexible in attitude and approach to work. Is able to demonstrate effective organisational and prioritisation skills. At times the successful candidate will be working to tight deadlines and under pressure and will be required to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective team player – able to work effectively in an established, close-knit team. Demonstrates an enthusiastic and engaged attitude, with excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style. Able to form strong working relationships across all areas of the practice.
- Willingness to assist across diverse technical and legal areas.
