Volunteer Trustee – Home-Start Nottingham

Could you help make a difference for children and families?

Are you approachable and naturally able to make people feel at ease?

Are you motivated by doing what is right and supporting your local community?

Do you believe every child deserves the best possible start in life?

Could you use your skills, experience, or lived experience to help shape the future of a local charity?

If so, we would love to hear from you.

About Us

Home-Start Nottingham works alongside families with compassion, kindness, and without judgement. We support parents and carers through challenging times, helping them build confidence, resilience, and stronger futures for their children.

We are now looking for passionate and values-driven individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Trustee, you will help guide and support the strategic direction of Home-Start Nottingham. Trustees play an important role in ensuring the organisation is well governed, financially sustainable, and continuing to deliver meaningful support to children and families across Nottingham.

You will work collaboratively with other trustees and senior leaders to:

  • Provide strategic oversight and governance
  • Support sound decision-making
  • Monitor organisational performance and impact
  • Ensure compliance with legal and financial responsibilities
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity and its values

This is a voluntary role with board meetings held in Nottingham.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who care about people.

You may already have trustee experience, or this could be your first governance role. What matters most is your commitment, values, and willingness to contribute positively.

We would particularly welcome people who:

  • Build positive relationships and work well with others
  • Bring empathy, integrity, and good judgement
  • Listen openly and value different perspectives
  • Want to make a meaningful difference in their community
  • Are motivated by fairness, inclusion, and doing what is right
  • Can contribute skills, knowledge, or lived experience

Experience in areas such as finance, fundraising, HR, safeguarding, charity governance, education, social care, community development, marketing, or leadership would be valuable, but is not essential.

Before Applying, Ask Yourself

  • Do I care about helping children and families thrive?
  • Am I someone who supports and encourages others?
  • Do I enjoy working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes?
  • Can I contribute my experience, perspective, or skills to help a charity grow?
  • Am I committed to acting with integrity and compassion?

If you answered yes to these questions, you could be exactly the kind of trustee we are looking for.

What You Will Gain

  • The opportunity to create lasting impact within your local community
  • Experience in charity governance and strategic leadership
  • Personal and professional development opportunities
  • The chance to work alongside a supportive and passionate board team
  • An opportunity to help shape services that change lives for children and families

How to Apply

If this opportunity speaks to your values and strengths, we would love to hear from you.

  • Please apply via LinkedIn or contact us directly for an informal conversation about joining the Board at Home-Start Nottingham.
