Salary: £16.00 – £18.00 per hour DOE

- Monday to Thursday: 07:00 – 16:00
- Friday: 07:00 – 12:00

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced General Machinist to join a skilled workshop team within a precision engineering environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing precision components, tools, jigs and fixtures using a range of manual machine tools, with additional CNC exposure where applicable. The role requires a high standard of workmanship, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting up and operating manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and drilling machines
- Manufacturing precision components, tooling, jigs, fixtures and small batch parts to engineering drawings and specifications
- Working to tight tolerances and ensuring all finished components meet quality standards
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, job sheets and process instructions
- Selecting appropriate materials, tooling, speeds and feeds for machining operations
- Using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, dial indicators and height gauges
- Carrying out basic machine maintenance and ensuring equipment is safe and operational
- Supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving activities within the workshop
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Working closely with engineering and production teams to meet deadlines and targets
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience as a General Machinist within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
You will also have:
- Strong manual machining experience in a workshop environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings confidently
- Good understanding of machining techniques, materials and tolerances
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
