Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic General Operative – Logistics to support the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Role Purpose
To support the efficient coordination, control, and movement of materials, equipment, and deliveries across the project, ensuring alignment with site logistics plans and programme requirements. This is a multi‑functional role with the expectation that the individual will undertake general operative duties where logistics activity is reduced or where project needs require additional site support.
What You’ll Be Doing
Logistics Duties
- Coordinate and manage deliveries in line with site logistics plans
- Receive, check, and record incoming materials and equipment
- Control movement of materials to designated work fronts or storage areas
- Maintain accurate records of stock, deliveries, and material movements
- Support laydown area organisation and material segregation
- Liaise with site teams, supervisors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of deliveries to minimise congestion and delays
General Operative Duties (as required)
- Support construction activities across mechanical, electrical and general site operations
- Assist trades with material handling and preparation
- Maintain housekeeping standards across logistics areas and wider site
- Carry out manual handling tasks in line with training
- Support loading/unloading and movement of materials across site
- Follow all site procedures, permits, and method statements
Key Accountabilities
- Efficient and accurate handling of materials and logistics operations
- Flexibility to transition between logistics and general operative duties
- Supporting programme delivery through effective material flow
- Maintaining high standards of safety, organisation, and site control
Who We’re Looking For
The following experience and qualifications are required:
- CSCS Card (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in logistics, stores, or site‑based operations
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple teams
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards
Desirable
- Experience on large‑scale infrastructure or energy projects
- Forklift / Telehandler or similar plant experience (where applicable)
- Knowledge of stock control systems or materials tracking
- Manual handling training

Additional Notes
This is not a standalone logistics role; individuals will be expected to undertake general operative duties as required, with responsibilities and working hours aligning with project requirements.
