Overview
A school in Sheffield is looking for a calm, resilient and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to make a real difference every day. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to support students with challenging or complex behaviours, focusing on de-escalation, positive reinforcement and helping young people develop emotional regulation skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide targeted behaviour support to individual pupils and small groups
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policy
- De‑escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students to encourage trust and engagement
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to share observations and progress
- Support pupils in developing self‑regulation and social skills
- Contribute to the review and implementation of individual behaviour plans
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties (SEMH)
- A sound understanding of behaviour management strategies and trauma‑informed practice
- Patient, resilient and able to remain composed under pressure
- Strong relationship‑building skills with both students and colleagues
- A proactive and reflective approach to supporting individual needs
- Relevant qualifications or training in behaviour support (desirable)

- Have an up‑to‑date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years
- Have a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education
