Job Description:

Job Summary: Working under indirect supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse, or as delegated to a nursing team member and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Duties are varied and may change in response to practice workload and staffing levels.

Responsibilities

  • New patient health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • Spirometry
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Medicines, consumables and medical equipment ordering and management, including emergency medication
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs and nurses
  • Cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
  • Vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine restocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and restocking consulting rooms of consumables and other requested items
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well‑being
  • Lead on NHS health checks and Learning Disabilities services
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on health and wellbeing needs
  • Ear syringing
  • Administer medications by injection with appropriate legal authorisation
  • Minor wound care
  • Assisting the GP in minor operation clinics
  • Chronic Disease Management recall systems
  • PPA collection and collation
  • Assist the Lead Nurse and Business Manager as directed
  • Assist with preparation and minute‑taking of Palliative Care meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Lead Nurse or Business Manager as needed

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Appropriate qualification
  • Qualified in phlebotomy

Desirable Qualifications

  • Appropriate level of qualification for a Healthcare Associate
