Job Summary

We are seeking Ward Caterers to cover both QE and Heartlands hospitals for Bank (zero hour) and substantive posts operating 7 days per week Monday to Sunday.

Shifts

  • 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Patient catering responsibilities include preparation, handling, and serving of foods across all areas of the catering department and associated hospital sites. The post holder must maintain good food hygiene standards, housekeeping and cleaning practices, and use industrial and light equipment and machinery within ward services, retail, stores, and central production units.

Patient Catering (Substantive or UHB+)

  • Temperatures of regenerated foods are recorded, along with chilled and frozen storage using the designated HACCP sheets.
  • To ensure codes of practice for HACCP and food safety are followed as per site training.
  • Check dates and rotation of food accordingly within working area.
  • Handling cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH and training provided.
  • Appropriate removal of food waste (as per site process) using designated waste and recycling streams.
  • Record appropriate food waste and report high levels of waste to supervisors.
  • Report abuse of service to Supervisors or line managers.
  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene and uniform standards as per site.
  • Display identification badge.
  • Maintain security of Trust property.

Qualifications

  • GCSE equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake in the induction period.

Experience

Essential:

  • Health and Safety or willingness to undertake in induction period.
  • Food Hygiene Regulations or willingness to undertake in induction period.
  • Willingness to undertake specific competencies to meet the full requirements of the role.

Desirable:

  • Previous Catering Work Experience.
  • Previous Hospital or Care Experience.
  • Catering related knowledge.
  • Allergy Regulations.

Additional Criteria

Essential:

  • Literate with basic I.T. skills.
  • Read and understand written documentation.
  • Verbally communicate with people.
  • Presentable.
  • Work in large teams.
  • Able to work in hot and cold environments.
  • Time keeping.

Desirable:

  • Driving Licence.
