Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant (Behaviour Support)
Start Date: Sept 2026 | Location: Tredegar, South Wales | Contract Type: Full-time (8:30 AM – 3:30 PM)
Pay Rate: From £92.65 per day (inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay)
About the Role
You will work closely alongside teaching staff to support students with ALN (Additional Learning Needs) and SEN, helping to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. The role will involve both 1:1 support and small group work, supporting students who may present challenging behaviour or require additional emotional and behavioural guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students
- Assist teachers in managing classroom behaviour and engagement
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students
- Support students’ wellbeing, development, and learning
- Effectively de‑escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
- Encourage participation and focus within lessons
- Support students with additional learning and emotional needs
Ideal Candidate
- A Psychology graduate or recent university leaver (desirable)
- Passionate about working with young people in an educational setting
- Confident supporting students with SEN/ALN needs
- Comfortable working with and managing challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, resilient, and proactive
- Able to remain calm and diffuse situations effectively
