The Opportunity


We are recruiting for an experienced R&D Workshop Technician to join an innovative manufacturing business specialising in the design and development of market-leading products. This is a hands-on workshop role where you’ll be responsible for producing prototypes, components and assemblies to support the development of new products.


Working closely with the Design and Engineering teams, you’ll play a key role in bringing concepts to life by manufacturing functional prototypes and developing practical engineering solutions.


Key Responsibilities



  • Manufacture prototypes, components and assemblies from engineering drawings and concepts.

  • Produce tools, jigs and fixtures to support prototype manufacture.

  • Work closely with Design and Engineering teams to develop practical solutions.

  • Create 3D CAD models and technical drawings.

  • Generate CNC toolpaths using CAM software.

  • Set up, programme and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines.

  • Operate manual lathes and milling machines to produce precision components.

  • Commission prototype parts and liaise with overseas suppliers where required.

  • Maintain workshop equipment, tooling and consumable stock.

  • Ensure the workshop remains safe, organised and compliant with Health & Safety procedures.

  • Support continuous improvement and product development activities.


What We’re Looking For



  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a workshop, machining or prototype manufacturing environment.

  • Level 3 Engineering Technician, Machining Technician or equivalent experience.

  • Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks desirable).

  • Experience using CAM software to generate CNC programmes would be beneficial.

  • Strong CNC machining experience, including 3-axis CNC mills would be beneficial.

  • Manual machining experience using lathes and milling machines.

  • Good knowledge of machining a range of materials including steel, aluminium, plastics and wood.

  • Competent using workshop machinery and hand tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams
