Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN)

This is a permanent position working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is £22,004, and the full time equivalent is £25,583 Grade 3.

About The Role

As a Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEN), you will work under the supervision of teaching staff and the senior leadership team to support pupils’ learning, wellbeing, and development. You’ll play a vital role in helping pupils to become happy, confident and successful young adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting small groups of children and implementing Individual Learning Plans
  • Assisting with supervision during teacher absence (short periods)
  • Providing feedback on pupil progress and maintaining records
  • Ensuring equal access to learning for all pupils
  • Participating in relevant training and developmentDemonstrating commitment to performance management and continuous improvement
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies

We’re Looking For Applicants Who

  • Have an understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and child development and learning
  • Possess strong literacy and numeracy skills (qualified to Level 2 or above)
  • Work effectively as part of a team and are committed to high professional standards
  • Are tactful, diplomatic, and able to build positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Have experience or a keen interest in working with children or young people with communication difficulties, severe, profound, or complex learning needs
  • Can communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English
