Pharmacy Senior Assistant Technical Officer

Grade Band 3 Contract Permanent. Based at QHB initially with cross‑site work to RDH. Full time 37.5 hours per week. Salary £25,760‑£27,476 per year. Job ref 320-CDCS-4064. Closing 01/06/2026.

Job Overview

Support the Pharmacy Cancer Team in the provision of chemotherapy and supplementary medicines to patients. Duties will rotate between the chemotherapy dispensary and aseptic services. Post holder required to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Main Duties

  • Dispense cytotoxic drugs and supportive medicines, including clinical trail medication.
  • Provide aseptically dispensed items – assembly of ingredients and consumables, sanitation of equipment and materials, processing of products.
  • Participate in cleaning schedule of clean rooms and support areas, following defined standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake required assessment, validations and broth testing as per departmental policy.

Qualifications and Education

  • GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in Maths and English or proven equivalent experience.
  • GPhC approved level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services, or willingness to work towards it.
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Demonstrated good face‑to‑face customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of stock control systems.
  • Experience working within an NHS setting.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy services and good understanding of manufacturing practice.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work according to procedures.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Use of automated/electronic systems.
  • Assess quality and acceptability of products at all stages of the aseptic process.
  • Ability to use calculations when completing/self‑checking worksheets.

  • Approachability and teamwork.
  • Effective working relations with other areas/departments.
