Pharmacy Senior Assistant Technical Officer

Join our dedicated cancer Pharmacy Team and support the provision of chemotherapy and supplementary medicines to patients. The role supports both the chemotherapy dispensary and aseptic services in a rotating basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Dispensing of cytotoxic drugs and supportive medicines, including clinical trial medication.
  • Provision of aseptically dispensed items, including assembly of ingredients and consumables, sanitation of equipment and materials and processing of products.
  • Participation in the cleaning schedule of clean rooms, support areas and equipment, following defined standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake required assessment, validations and broth tests as per departmental policy.

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements

  • GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in Maths and English or proven equivalent level of experience and knowledge within the same or similar role.
  • GPhC approved level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services or willingness to work towards.
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Good face‑to‑face customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures and the importance of these.
  • Knowledge of stock control systems.
  • Experience working within an NHS setting.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy services.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing practice.

Skills and Ability

  • Ability to work according to procedures.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Ability to use automated/electronic systems.
  • Ability to assess quality and acceptability of products at all stages of the aseptic process.
  • Ability to use calculations when completing/self‑checking worksheets.

Communications and interpersonal skills

  • Approachability and teamwork.
  • Effective working relations with other areas and departments.
